's

Established as a hobby by Ballarat businessman Ian Home, the Yellowglen vineyard at Smythesdale, 18km south west of Ballarat, was originally planted with red grape varieties destined for table wine. The name Yellowglen was given to the winery after a gold mine was discovered in the middle of what are now pinot noir vineyards.

It soon became clear that this cool climate area would be far better suited to the production of world class sparkling wine. Sparkling wine was made for the first time at Yellowglen.

's

Ian Home went into partnership with Dominique Landragin, born and bred in the Champagne region in France.

The classic yellow labelled Yellowglen Brut NV was released. Mildara Wines took control of the winery the same year. Also in 1984, Jeffrey Wilkinson from Brown Brothers came on board as head winemaker.

The first Yellowglen Vintage wine was released. It was made from the 1987 vintage and it has gained a reputation as being one of Australia's finest single vintage sparkling wines.

's

Adam Eggins became chief winemaker. He graduated Dux of his class from the famed oenology school at Roseworthy College in 1990.

Yellowglen introduced 'Y' Premium, a blend of Yellowglen's best vintages, launched in an innovative ceramic printed label bottle.

Yellowglen Yellow Sparkling was successfully launched, becoming an instant success. This year also saw the acquisition of Mildara Blass Wines by Foster's.

-2000: Nick Walker took over the role of Yellowglen Chief Winemaker. He was a caretaker for the brand until 1999 when Charles 'Chilly' Hargrave was appointed Head Winemaker at Yellowglen. 2000 saw the successful launch of Yellowglen Red sparkling, and the introduction of Yellowglen Pinot Noir Chardonnay Piccolos in time for Christmas.

's

A super premium classic sparkling crafted from fruit grown by Chief Winemaker Charles Hargrave on his Adelaide Hills vineyard was introduced. This wine reinforced Yellowglen's commitment to crafting premium Australian sparkling wines.

Yellowglen also launched into the overseas market.

Yellowglen Pinot Noir Chardonnay was relaunched as a vintage product and Yellowglen Yellow packaging received a make-over, introducing a new brand identity across all packaging, advertising and merchandise.

Yellowglen once again lead the way with the launch of Pink. Pink was met with instant approval by consumers, the trade and the wine media. Shortly after, Yellow and Pink piccolos were also released.

Yellowglen Vintage Bella, a classic pink sparkling wine, was launched. 2005 also saw the consolidation of the premium products including 'Y' premium, Cuvée Victoria and Hargraves; and the launch of the super premium Yellowglen Vintage Perle.

Yellowglen wines were in such demand that the brand outgrew the Yellowglen site in Smythesdale. Yellowglen wines continue to be produced from quality sparkling vineyards across the country by Chief Winemaker Charles Hargrave and his team, who are now based in the Barossa in South Australia.

Yellowglen reaffirms its position as leader in sparkling with the launch of the exciting new innovation, Jewel Yellow and Jewel Pink, Australia's first ever dedicated lower calorie, lower alcohol sparkling wines.
